the night i knew

stripped down,

skin and bones,

laced and black gown.

sip of red wine,

on your lips,

just a little past nine.

peeling layer after layer,

i whisper to you,

like dirty shades greyer.

tell me,

before i leave,

and it’s just me.

tell me i do it well,

i’m the one who does it well,

i’m on top / there’s no need to tell.

drop all the lies,

something real for the night,

i’m reading between your eyes.

you get that call,

turning the other way,

i’m remembering all the nights you made me small.

driving through,

empty streets,

shivering,

to the thoughts of you,

because it was the night i knew.
